20th Annual LightHouse Awards Program Presented by BB&T Home Mortgage

Hilton Head Island, September 15, 2019The Hilton Head Area Home Builders Association (HBA) is pleased to announce BB&T Home Mortgage as the 2019 Presenting Sponsor of the annual LightHouse Awards. BB&T representatives met with HBA leaders over the summer months to confirm the company’s commitment and present the HBA with the official sponsorship check.

The LightHouse Awards were established in 1999 as an annual program specifically for members of the Home Builders Association to recognize quality craftsmanship and design excellence in homes throughout the Lowcountry.  In 2019, the Home Builders Association added a new Light Commercial category in honor of local contractor Joseph C. Harden in order to represent a fuller picture of the local building industry market.

From September 12-14, 2019 HBA staff and LightHouse Committee members welcomed twelve different Building Industry Professionals from all over South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia to physically judge each new home, remodel, light commercial, and design (architectural, interior, and landscape) entries; a practice rarely seen in this digital age.

Building industry peers typically consist of a mixture of Builder/Remodelers and Architect/Designers from similar but non-competitive markets throughout the Southeast. Judges spend two full days traveling throughout the Lowcountry to score New Home, Full Remodel, Partial Remodel as well as the new Light Commercial, and Architectural, Interior, and Landscape Design entries that have been divided into categories based on final cost of construction and square footage. Because entries in each cost and size category are evaluated one after another, an entry at Fripp Island may be judged immediately following a project in Sea Pines. The process of comparing entries within a category is what gives the HBA’s awards program integrity and assures each participant receives a fair judging experience.

Building futures. One home at a time.

“This awards program has remained steadfast in its commitment to excellence and although ever evolving, it will remain hands-on because true craftsmanship and excellence in design cannot be judged by photos but instead, must be evaluated in person.” Stated Meg James, Executive Officer of the HBA.

“The backing of BB&T Mortgage is essential to the success of the LightHouse Awards program,” stated HBA LightHouse Awards Committee Chair Dan Monroe.  During the check presentation Monroe thanked BB&T Home Mortgage associates for their support stating, “BB&T’s commitment to local building industry professionals and the community we all serve, is a testament to the success of our awards program, the talent and craftsmanship of HBA member contracting and design companies, and the character of BB&T Home Mortgage.”

“The Lighthouse Awards is a celebration of the finest homes and homebuilders in the Low Country.  Every year we are amazed at the quality and originality of the homes produced by the members of the Hilton Head Area Home Builders Association.  We at BB&T Home Mortgage consider it an honor and a privilege to be a part of this event,” stated Lisa Henry, Mortgage Loan Officer of BB&T Home Mortgage who presented the sponsorship check to HBA leaders along with Mortgage Loan Officers, Leo Evangelista and Sara Broman.

The 2019 LightHouse Award recipients will be announced at the 20th Annual LightHouse Awards Gala on Friday, November 8 at Sonesta Resort and Spa on Hilton Head Island.  For more information, visit www.hhahba.com or contact the HBA at (843)681-9240.
