Creating your perfect home environment is best achieved with the help of a skilled professional.

Designing a new home or renovating an existing one can present challenges even for experienced homeowners. Properly envisioning how each space will harmonize to achieve the desired three-dimensional experience requires more than merely selecting flooring, wall colors, and furniture. It necessitates a comprehensive design approach to ensure the final environment is both harmonious and aesthetically appealing. An Interior Designer possesses the expertise necessary to cultivate a cohesive interior design aesthetic by evaluating each room’s function, traffic flow, sightlines, and furniture arrangement.

With over 20 years of interior design experience, Michelle Bichy, Principal Designer of Indigo Design, understands that each client’s interior should be custom curated to reflect their personal style. The Indigo Design team meticulously listens to clients’ needs and familiarizes themselves with their lifestyle, interests, and sense of design, enabling them to make selections that are tailored specifically for each space. Whether hired by a custom home builder or the client, Michelle enjoys collaborating on a project from the onset to ensure that spaces are designed for optimal utilization and reflect the ultimate vision of her client. “It is most important to understand who will be utilizing the space, what activities will occur there, where users will move to and from this space, when the space will be used (day or night), and why the space will hold significance,” explains Michelle. “This allows us to combine style and practicality to make a home beautiful and functional.”

The spatial relationship between rooms in a floor plan and the pattern of traffic flow are critical considerations when designing a home’s interior. Bichy recently completed a renovation project in Palmetto Dunes, which required reorganizing the floor plan within the current structural framework. “By redistributing space within the floor plan, we enhanced the home’s functionality, improved its flow and opened up the space. This adjustment also transformed the home’s aesthetics, allowing for scenic views from the kitchen, great room, and dining room.” Sightlines are another essential element of a home’s design. A well-conceived interior will emphasize impactful sightlines such as views to the exterior, architectural features, or visual connections between rooms.

Beyond space planning and finish selections, Michelle and her team collaborate with the contractor throughout the construction process to ensure that specialty features and mechanicals are installed for the future interiors. “For every project, our team creates a detailed client portfolio that helps both the contractor and client visualize the interior finish layout. This comprehensive package typically includes room-specific photos, layout drawings, quotes, and material specifications,” shares Bichy. The design team also uses the portfolio as a guide for the final installation of all furnishings, fixtures, and accessories. “Whether it’s a new build or a renovation, my goal as an interior designer is to make the process enjoyable and stress-free for my clients, while creating a space that’s both comfortable and tailored to their lifestyle.”

Michelle Bichy earned a bachelor’s degree in interior design with minors in marketing and psychology from Miami University in Ohio. Michelle has collaborated with numerous architecture and design firms, builders, and clients for over 20 years to curate a diverse portfolio of spaces in a range of styles. Her extensive knowledge of space planning, furnishings, finishes, and manufacturers partnered with a cultured talent allows her a comprehensive approach to interior design.
