A Design The Whole Family Can Enjoy

Winner of BEST OVERALL and BEST KITCHEN at the 2024 LightHouse Awards, this Heyward Point contemporary coastal home is a fine example of the style currently being constructed in the Lowcountry. Built by Full Circle Development, it partners modern exterior architectural elements with a timeless interior palette for a design the whole family can enjoy
Matthew Bader, owner of Full Circle Development, knew the project would be special from the start. “The homeowner works in the building trade, and I have had the pleasure of collaborating with him over the years, building dozens of homes for other families. When he and his wife approached me to build their dream home, I was both honored and excited about the prospect of building for THEM,” shares Bader. Armed with an enormous file of wish list photos which the clients had found online and a list of unique features they had observed in homes currently under construction, the design/ build team began composing a custom home design which would meet the needs and fulfill the dreams of the clients.
With over 7,000 square feet of heated space, this residence is perfect for this large family and their extended family members whom they host on many occasions throughout the year. With entertaining in mind, the home’s interior spaces are not only spacious and connected but also furnished to accommodate both intimate and group gatherings. The unique layout of the great room allows for one-on-one conversations by the fire or an assembly in front of the television for the “big game.” Beyond the great room is the main kitchen and dining room that opens to more dining and lounging space on the screened porch.
The custom designed home has four kitchens: Family, His, Hers and Guests. Each serves a unique purpose that functions around the primary user. RIGHT Hers, which is tucked away off the main Family kitchen, is the workhorse where daily meals are prepared.
“The kitchens were a focal point in many of our interior design discussions,” says Kathryn Drury, interiors coordinator for Full Circle Development. “Cooking is not just about the food for this family. It is about the experience.” Drury and the homeowners, with Center Point Cabinets, Billy Wood Appliance, Savannah Surfaces, and Counter Fitters, designed four distinct kitchens: ‘His,’ ‘Hers,’ ‘Family,’ and ‘Guest,’ each serving a unique purpose. The main kitchen, Family, with its expansive island and perimeter counters offers plenty of space for in-kitchen dining as well as food preparation and buffet. Keeping the main kitchen counters free of clutter and display was accomplished by designing a hidden pantry that blends with the cabinetry.
Drury’s favorite kitchen, Hers, is where daily meal preparation takes place. It is tucked away from the main kitchen off a secondary hallway. Galley style, this space is the essence of efficiency, making the most of a small space. It is beautifully decorated with custom cabinetry in Sherwin Williams’ Respite paint color, stainless steel appliances, and stunning counters and backsplash. His kitchen is a professional grade outdoor cooking center with a fabulous view. Located on the screened porch overlooking the pool and courtyard, it features a built-in grill, double side burners, a 30” Asado
built in grill, a 72” outdoor insert vent with custom built hood, stainless steel drawers and doors, a custom stainless-steel full-size backsplash, and a beverage center. The Guest kitchen is a pleasant surprise for visitors, featuring a full kitchen in the two-bedroom, one-bath apartment with living and dining areas.
Hosting family and friends in this home goes beyond the kitchens, five bedrooms, two bunk rooms, six bathrooms, and multiple living spaces. “The clients’ wishes to accommodate the interests of family members in the home design was integral to our build. Challenging our team with new ideas daily, we completed the home with an in-home gym, private office, game room, and movie theater,” states Bader. “It’s been one of the most fun homes to build to date, reminding my team daily that home is where family memories are made.”
