Rose Dhu Creek Real Estate

The South Carolina Lowcountry has long been a magnet for those unique individuals determined to live their lives as they wish. The people who enjoy life here come from both near and far, a blend of personalities and outlooks that, while very different, also share much in common. Whether former city dweller, retiree, young professional or well-established careerist, the call of the Lowcountry sounds a song that to them is too attractive to ignore.

All are united by a common love for the environment. They are happiest near the water, the woods, riding or walking, fishing or boating as they please, free from too many rules, too many people and too many demands. This is a place where life is meant to be lived to the fullest, and where “back to your roots” has a very special meaning.

Word has spread about the exquisite joys of the Lowcountry, which is news both good and bad. People here are most hospitable and visitors are welcomed with smiles. Still, so many have come, and then stayed, that in some places things have become crowded. Simpler times and gentler manners have given way to a faster, not so kind pace. While there is still much in which to delight, it is harder and harder to find.

Such delight may be found at Rose Dhu Creek Plantation. More than 320 acres of pristine Lowcountry environment is now being carefully opened to selected neighbors seeking estate size home sites. If you are searching for the Lowcountry, you can find it at Rose Dhu Creek Plantation where the soul of the Lowcountry lives on in the heart of Bluffton.

It has been said that Bluffton is “a state of mind.” One hundred and fifty years ago Bluffton was a summer retreat for planters and their families seeking relief on the bluffs of the May River from the heat of the rice, indigo and sea island cotton fields. Interestingly, Bluffton was also a hotbed of revolution. A still standing oak now known as the Secession Tree witnessed the early stirrings of war. Underneath it locals led South Carolina to become the first state to secede from the Union.

With the conflict over, Bluffton returned to its gentler ways. It is a town that represents the essence of Lowcountry living, and it sets the tone for the people who have chosen to live their lives in and around it. Rose Dhu Creek Plantation, just four miles west of the Old Town of Bluffton, along Route 46, is close to Bluffton and yet very far away at the same time. Those who find themselves living behind the gates of Rose Dhu share much in common with the people who settled here long ago.

At Rose Dhu Creek the desires for space, room, and privacy are adequately met with home sites ranging from just under an acre to more than five acres. While covenants designed to protect everyone’s property values are in place, there are many more freedoms than restrictions. A child’s tree house, private gardens, horses, dogs, long driveways and lowcountry porches are among those things that are encouraged rather than discouraged. Currently there are two furnished developer model homes open in Rose Dhu Creek. While each meets the need we all have for space, they are unique in their design. Both homes, currently on the market, were built by Legacy Construction and showcase the kind of “Lowcountry Living” one can find at Rose Dhu Creek. The models are beautifully decorated and feature custom work throughout. Both have custom cabinetry, special trim and crown moldings, gorgeous heart pine floors, top of the line appliance packages and let us not forget – porches.

The sales model located at 29 Rose Dhu Creek Plantation Drive is situated on a 2.91 acre lot at the base of Rose Dhu Creek. A few steps from the back door one can sit for hours on the creek’s edge watching the tremendous wildlife, undisturbed, enjoying their natural habitat. The 4,418 heated square foot home has four bedrooms, four full baths and two half baths, an open kitchen/family room, formal living and dining rooms, a great study with built-in shelves and a wet bar, and room for lots of toys, big and small, in the three car garage. The dining room is a must-see with an exquisite mural painted by artist Joe Doolan. The lowcountry scene has tremendous depth and manages to pull the onlooker into the painting as though he were side by side with the oysterman throwing his shrimp net into the quiet May River.

The newest model home, located at 14 Sweet Grass Lane, is a revision of Legacy Construction’s popular Brothers’ Grimm Model. As part of the Storybook Collection of Homes and the Miller’s Pond Collection, this model is truly a treasure in the woods. The home is loaded with versatility including a total of 3,460 heated square feet. It has four bedrooms, three and a half baths, a great room with coffered ceilings, a study, a terrific screened-in porch, and a spacious two car garage with a guest suite above.

Miller’s Pond, the third and final phase of Rose Dhu Creek is slightly different than the first two phases of the development. It is still Lowcountry in style, but the streets are paved with oyster shells inviting neighbors to visit one another. Miller’s Pond makes up 60 of Rose Dhu’s 320 acres. The home sites, from $199,900, in Miller’s Pond are truly desirable. Averaging .94 acres, they have some of the most beautiful hardwoods in Rose Dhu. One must not forget the ‘pond’. The 3.5 acre lagoon which, like Lakes Lauren and Meg in Phase II, will be fully stocked for fishing. Owners are sure to enjoy lazy afternoons fishing, canoeing and picnicking on the banks of this not so ‘pond’ sized pond.

There are more than 6.5 miles of positively gorgeous Lowcountry riding and leisure trails that wind throughout the property. While on the trail, it is quite common to encounter a vast array of wildlife including deer, fox, wild turkeys, great egrets, herons and wood storks. One not only enjoys the trails and creek by horseback, but there are dozens of nooks and crannies in and around the creek and its marshes, ripe for exploration. Children (and adults alike) can play in the creek, skip rocks, swing from vines, climb trees, build forts and live as those who discovered the Lowcountry so many years ago. For those who like an easier way to relax, there is a community pool and screened pavilion with a large country fireplace. Community gatherings, oyster roasts and cookouts are held here, as well as private functions.

At the heart of Rose Dhu Creek Plantation is the deep-founded appreciation for the equestrian. Developer, Steve Anthony, Sr., grew up riding (“cowboy style” of course) in upper South Carolina and yearned to do an equestrian development for many years. Upon discovering the Rose Dhu Creek property, he knew that this was the time. Many people tried to encourage him to do yet another golf course community with it’s high density to ‘maximize the profitability’. But, the beauty of the property, the abundant wildlife and his love for creation wouldn’t allow it. Mr. Anthony envisioned nature trails that allowed the homeowner and equestrian to explore and enjoy the natural surroundings as much as he. Well, the vision of Rose Dhu Creek has come to fruition. The horse is as much a part of the Lowcountry as rice, cotton and evening oyster roasts. At one point a sturdy breed known as the Marsh Tacky helped cultivate the south. Some still run wild on the barrier islands that surround us, a sight you never forget as they gallop across the wide beaches with their long manes extended. Rose Dhu Creek Plantation understands the horse, the needs of horse people, and the perspectives of those who simply appreciate a community where the equestrian is welcome.

What would an equestrian community be without a barn? At the conceptual stages of Rose Dhu Creek, a modest 12-stall barn was planned for the owner who didn’t want a private barn on their own property. Well, as plans often do, they changed. That original 12 stall barn evolved into what is now a truly state of the art equestrian facility with a barn that is perhaps the safest, coolest, and most maintenance-free in the area providing both horse and rider with the healthiest environment possible.

Rose Dhu Creek Equestrian Center (RDCEC) is an awesome site for every equestrian whether first time horse owner or seasoned rider. Professionally managed and operated by highly qualified individuals, the seventeen acre facility includes: a 16,000 square foot, 32 stall barn with two indoor hot/cold wash bays, a feed room, climate controlled tack rooms, a rider’s lounge, an office, a restroom with a shower; a round pen, 2 all-weather arenas, and an impressive 20,000 square foot covered and lighted arena. To meet the needs of all equestrians RDCEC offers three levels of board including individual turnout and call ahead service for those who wish to have their horses groomed, tacked and ready to ride upon their arrival and then cooled down, un-tacked and put away.

Property owners, of course, are encouraged to stable at the facility, which is also open to the public for boarding, training and lessons. With a live-in manager/trainer on site, boarders are confident that their horses are well cared for. RDCEC has quite a range of boarders from strictly pleasure horses to nationally ranked champions. Speaking of national champions, presently ranked among the top in the country in the USEF hunter-jumper division, Josh Dolan and his horse “Chino”, have chosen RDCEC as their winter home. In fact Josh and “Chino” are set to compete in the 123rd National Horse Show in South Florida on December 3rd. Everyone at Rose Dhu wishes them great success as “Chino” is on tract to become Five Year Old Jumper “Horse of the Year”. Let us just say that Josh is beaming with pride for “Chino” and their success as a team.

RDCEC prides itself in being a multiple discipline facility offering lessons and training in everything from Hunt Seat Hunters to Natural Horsemanship. Recently, the University of South Carolina – Beaufort selected RDCEC as their official equestrian facility. One of the goals of RDCEC is to encourage equestrians to continue educating themselves about the needs and requirements of their equine partners. In reality, there are a lot of horse owners with very little knowledge about horses. As a result, consultant, Sarah Hyers of Screven Equine Center has plans to bring her Horsemanship 101 class to RDCEC. No other facility in the area offers a class that covers everything from basic grooming to learning how to take vital signs.

Horsemanship 101 is not the only thing on the agenda for RDCEC. They look forward to hosting top clinicians from all over the country as well as hosting shows and other equestrian events. With the covered arena now in operation, there are no more worries about rain delays and daylight savings time. There are kids’ camps, ice cream socials, pizza parties and charity events included in some of the fun to be had at Rose Dhu.

As one can see, Rose Dhu Creek Plantation is a very special place indeed. It is a community dedicated to those with an unbridled passion for Lowcountry living at its very best, a community where freedoms are enjoyed more than restrictions adhered to, a community that truly embraces those who enter in. You and your family are always welcome. Please stop by for a visit and experience Lowcountry Living Preserved at Rose Dhu Creek Plantation.
