Designed by legendary golf course architect Pete Dye, Heron Point is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. Four months after Heron Point’s grand opening, the South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel announced that it would be awarding Heron Point one of the highest ratings ever for a new golf course and the Excellence in New Course Design award.

Heron Point’s fairways are shaped into dramatic angles and shifting elevations, while surfaces are a mixture of sand, mulch, limestone, and different grasses that offer appealing color changes. The course features small, exacting greens, treacherous bunkering, and an artistic use of trees and water hazards- but also showcases more modern mounding and elevation changes that add to the value of every shot. Dye added lagoons and changed the contours of many existing bodies of water on the course. He also designed unique aesthetic features such as board and grass walls along some of the greens that border the water.
